[edit] Biography & History

Ben Bradshaw was born in Blackpool, one of Britain’s most well-known and best loved seaside resorts. He became interested in the art of magic and illusion at an early age of five, when a magician came to his birthday party. Ben continued honing his magic skills and developed his own unique illusions which led him to perform magic at a professional level. Ben received an invitation to join The Magic Circle, an organization dedicated to magic. He became the youngest magician in Australia to be admitted into the prestigious society. [3]

[edit] Current Career

Today, Ben Bradshaw is regarded as one of Australia's "fastest rising magicians". Over the years he has performed magic for millions of TV viewers and thousands of Australia's leading companies and corporations. [4] In 2003, Bradshaw founded 'Australians Magicians Bureau', an agency providing clients with high quality magicians for entertainment purposes. [5]

[edit] World Record Achievements

While some may go for endurance or size, Ben goes for speed, having broken two world records on Seven's Guinness World Records TV show - an Australian production that debuted in 2005.

Ben Bradshaw performed his first Guinness World Record on April 17, 2005 on the set of Guinness World Records in Sydney. The challenge was to escape from a regulation straitjacket while submerged in a tank of water. If accomplished, Bradshaw would be setting the benchmark for future underwater escapes. The record was successfully performed in a time of 38.59 seconds. The record was much-promoted and featured in one of the highest-rating episodes of the TV show. [6]

Several weeks later, on June 19 2005, Ben Bradshaw performed a different type of straitjacket escape. This time the record was to be performed on dry land, wearing what he claimed was the latest, "most impenetrable" (posey) straitjacket on the market. The record was accomplished in a time of 50.08 seconds. Although the duration of this attempt is a fraction larger than his previous underwater escape, it did beat the previous 1 minute and 25 second record set by David Straitjacket, who used a regulated straitjacket, five months earlier.

According to The Courier Mail (September 02, 2006), Bradshaw believes that there is only a handful of people in the world who can actually escape from real straitjackets and a lot of magicians who claim they can are wearing 'fake' straitjackets. As such, a posey straitjacket is the only type of straitjacket now permitted for use in world records. Two adjudicators, including a jacket examiner, were required to witness Bradshaw's attempt. [7]
