Most people of the village belong to the catholic parish 'Onze Lieve Vrouwe ten Hemelopneming' which was founded with the building of a parish church in 1853. In the earlier years of the 19th century the village was the seat of its own municipality, to become part of the municipality of Eibergen later in the 19th century.
