Bell Riots
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bell Riots is a fictional event in the Star Trek universe on September 1, 2024.
As presented in the beginning of the two-part Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Past Tense", in the year 2020 the economically disadvantaged are moved into Sanctuary Districts in larger cities. These districts are basically guarded ghettos rife with crime where the poor are forced to live. On September 1, 2024, riots break out in San Francisco's "Sanctuary District A". During the riots six employees of an administrative processing center are taken hostage and news of the Sanctuary District conditions is sent out over Earth's planetary computer network. History records that Gabriel Bell sacrifices his life to save the hostages.
In the two-part episode "Past Tense", characters travel back in time and participate in the Bell Riots establishing a timeline slightly different from the original historical record.
[edit] In real life
A Bell Riot Day commemoration was planned for September 1, 2005.
