The film focuses on a boys basketball coach. He moves to a town in western Oklahoma and fully expects to coach the boys team. He is finally positioned into the coaching spot for the girls team instead. He eventually develops a rapport with the girls on the team and learns to coach them well. He develops the team into a competitive force and makes the team and sport appreciated in a place where it was not supported before.

This film was shot in various parts of New Mexico, some was shot in Albuquerque, although the majority was shot in Clovis and 6 days in Portales, New Mexico. The championship game was shot at the Clovis High School's "Rock" Gym.
