Belfield Park

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Belfield Park is the home stadium home of University College Dublin A.F.C.. It has capacity for 1,900 people, including 848 seats. It is located on the western edge of the Belfield campus off Foster's Avenue. The main stand is the covered AIB Stand, while the Foster's Avenue End (colloquially known as the Cascarino Stand, an humorous conflation of the stand's many missing seats with the familiar gap-toothed mouth of former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino) is closed as the wooden floorboards are unsafe in wet weather. The stadium plays host to under-age Ireland international matches and senior international training sessions on occasion. 300 extra seats were temporarily added for the 2005 League Cup final against Derry City, which, together with the opening of the hill, increased capacity to 2,500.

It has been proposed that UCD may play their home games at the Belfield Bowl, home of the UCD rugby team, from the 2007 summer season. The Belfield Park site will be developed as the University Biotechnology Centre, at no profit to the club.
