Belchite
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Belchite is a town in Zaragoza province, Spain, about 40 km southeast of Zaragoza. On August 24, 1937, it was the site of a major battle of the Spanish Civil War. Due to that the city is now divided into the old city and the new city. The old city remains as a ghost town tribute to the Spanish Civil War.
The remains of the old town have been used as filming locations in films including Terry Gilliam's 1988 film "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" and Guillermo Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth.
