Beddawi

Beddawi (Arabic: بدوي) is a small city situated at the Mediterranean sea about 5 km north of Tripoli. It has about 30000 inhabitants. There are 4 primary schools and one secondary school and one soccer team. The city is surrounded by orange plantages and has 2 monumental buildings of the crusades times. It has also a Petroleum raffinerie which is out of order since the Lebanese civil war.

Until the 1950s Beddawi was a little village surrounded with fields and had less than 1000 inhabitants. In 1955 the Palestinian refugees built a camp near to the city. In 1983 the city underwent several battles between the Palestinian Militias and some parts of it were severely destroyed.
