The track was released in February 1996, in United States, Canada, Japan, and Latin America. In other parts of the world it was the second single, released in May 1996.
"Because You Loved Me" was written by Diane Warren and produced by David Foster for the film Up Close & Personal.
The song was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1997, as well as 4 Grammy Awards. It won Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media (award went to Diane Warren), and was nominated for: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
The music video was directed by Kevin Bray and released in March 1996.
The B-sides of this single included unreleased at that time songs: "The Power of the Dream," "To Love You More" & "Sola Otra Vez."
"Because You Loved Me" was a part of All the Way... A Decade of Song compilation in 1999. Live version was included on A New Day... Live in Las Vegas (2004).
This song was covered by Johnny Mathis (1998), Michael Ball (1998), Vivian Reed (2001), and Clay Aiken (2006).

"Because You Loved Me" was one of the biggest hits of Céline. It reached #1 in United States, Canada, and Australia. In all of those countries, it was her second number one song. The single set a record on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, where it remained at number one for nineteen weeks. It topped many other American charts as well, including Hot 100 Airplay and Hot 100 Singles Sales among others. "Because You Loved Me" was also a hit in the rest of the world: #2 in Ireland, #3 in New Zealand & Switzerland, #4 in Netherlands, #5 in United Kingdom & Belgium etc. The song sold over 1.3 million copies in U.S. where it was certified platinum. It was also certified in Australia (2x platinum), New Zealand (platinum), Germany (gold), and United Kingdom (silver). Notable is the fact that "Because You Loved Me" spent 154 weeks (3 years) on U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary Recurrents chart.
