Beauty and Sadness

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Beauty and Sadness is The Smithereens second EP, released in 1983. They showed a lot of growth in their sound, thanks to playing around the New Jersey area as well as serving as the backing band for Otis Blackwell. The disc showed off their emerging "Beatles meets AC/DC" style with some class, especially the title track, which is an homage to "Ticket To Ride." The songs are much stronger than Girls About Town, but there was enough rough edges around the band that would be worked out by the time they recorded their first proper album, "Especially for You" three years later.
