Beaune Clos des Mouches Joseph Drouhin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beaune Clos des Mouches Joseph Drouhin is a vineyard consisting of 62 acres of light stony soil over chalky marl and it enjoys the benefits of a direct southern exposure. British Master of Wine Clive Coates has written highly of the wine.
The 1973 vintage was selected for the Paris Wine Tasting of 1976. It competed against nine other wines in the blind tasting by crème de la crème wine experts of the French wine establishment, where it was ranked number five. First place went to California’s Chateau Montelena, followed by Meursault Charmes Roulot, Chalone Vineyard (California), and Spring Mountain Vineyard (California).
In an earlier blind tasting in New York City before 250 members of the New York Food and Wine Society, the winery's 1969 was ranked in fifth place after four California Chardonnays. Judges included France's Alexis Lichine.
Beaune Clos des Mouches Joseph Drouhin also competed in the Great Chardonnay Showdown wine competition held in 1980.
