Béal an Daingin (Bealadangan in English) is a small village in the heart of Connemara (Conamara), a rocky windswept area on the Atlantic coast, in County Galway, Ireland. The primary language is Irish, and all but a few of the elderly population also speak English. There is a pub, a post office and an elementary school (Toureen) located a couple of miles down the road.
This area is rich in culture. Many of the residents continue to cut turf (peat) for use in heating their homes during the long, dark, and rainy winter months. Sean Nós singing is still performed locally, and its unique mournful sounds are rarely heard outside the area. That said, on a summers day it is a picturesque scenic area rich in heritage.
Raidio na Gaeltachta is the local Gaeilge radio station and many local singers and musicians can be heard through their website: www.rte.ie/rnag/
Other local villages of interest are Leitir Móir and An Cheathrú Rua.
