Beal City, Michigan

Beal City is an unincorporated community in Isabella County, Michigan, United States. It is a Census-designated place (CDP) used for statistical purposes. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had an estimated population of 345. It is situated within the Isabella Indian Reservation of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council.

Beal City is at 43°40′09″N, 84°54′31″W. The FIPS place code is 06360. The elevation is 865 feet above sea level.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.4 km² (4.0 mi²), all land.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 345 people, 124 households, and 91 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 33.2/km² (86.1/mi²). There were 131 housing units at an average density of 12.6/km² (32.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.84% White, 0.29% Native American, 0.29% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.29% of the population.

There were 124 households out of which 38.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% were married couples living together, 4.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.6% were non-families. 20.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.24.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 16.2% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.2 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $50,250. Males had a median income of $31,875 versus $33,750 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,185. About 5.5% of families and 10.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.5% of those age 65 or over.

[edit] Coldwater Lake

Coldwater Lake is located on the west side of Beal City. The lake was once filled with floating logs from the local saw mills; there are still two sawmills in Beal City. Now Coldwater Lake attracts people from all across Isabella to come swim, boat and camp at Coldwater Lake county park.
