Beal Aerospace
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beal Aerospace was founded in February 1997 by Andrew Beal, president of Beal Bank in Dallas, Texas. The goal of the company was to build and operate a privately developed heavy lift orbital launch vehicle.
The engines of the Beal Aerospace launch vehicle were to be powered by kerosene and hydrogen peroxide. This combination was selected in order to obviate the need for expensive cryogenic storage. The combination is also hypergolic.
Despite a number of initial technical successes, the company ran into a series of problems, mostly political.
Following NASA's announcement that they would fund research and development of an Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV), Andrew Beal announced in October 2000 that Beal Aerospace would cease operations.
