"Be My Last" is Utada Hikaru's 18th single. It was released on September 28, 2005 and was also her first Japanese single in 2005. This song is the main theme for the movie "Haru no Yuki", or its English title, "Spring Snow", which is based on the novel by Yukio Mishima. This single signaled a new age to Utada's music, one with much more emotionally charged lyrics.
"Be My Last" reached #1 on the first day of its release on the Oricon chart, and stayed was the number one single of the week. To date,"Be My Last" has sold about 145,000 physical copies. Part of these low physical sales could be attributed to late promotion. Utada Hikaru had five TV performances a month after it had been released due to her promotional work in Europe which delayed her performances. On the television program, Music Station, Utada Hikaru was accompanied with a cello as background music for "Be My Last" instead of the CD version which she had used for the other performances. Aya Matsuura had also covered Be My Last on October 30, 2005.
Despite such low physical sales, "Be My Last" was a strong digital seller, becoming the number two single of 2005 on iTunes Japan.
