From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bayi Football Team (Simplified Chinese: 八一足球队) was a football team under the sport branch of the People's Liberation Army in China between 1951 and 2003. The team was based in Beijing.
Bayi had a long history of honors and won the national title five times before 1986. However, as a part of the People's Liberation Army, Bayi can not introduce foreign players and attract sponsors.
After the formation the Chinese Football Association Jia League (now Chinese Super League) in 1994, Bayi moved its home city almost every year for financial reasons. Their home cities include Taiyuan, Xi'an, Kunming, Shijiazhuang, XinXiang, Liuzhou and Xiangtan, Hunan. In these years, Bayi had many named due to sponsorship, include Bayi Zhengbang, and Bayi Xiangtan.
Bayi Football Team was disbanded in 2003 by the People's Liberation Army.
