Bay Plaza Shopping Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bay Plaza is a shopping mall in Co-op City, in the Bronx, New York. In addition to various department stores and shops, it has a movie theater, several restaurants, a fitness club, and some office space. The mall was constructed circa 1990, just outside of sections 4 and 5 of Co-op City, on an open lot that was previously used to dump old tires and garbage. After Bay Plaza opened, the traffic into Co-op City increased dramatically. The residents complained, and in an attempt to ease vehicular crowding, the community's Greenway (a large green field central to most of Co-op City) was converted into parking spaces.
