Bay Head, New Jersey

Bay Head is a Borough in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 1,238. Bay Head is situated on the Barnegat Peninsula, a long, narrow barrier peninsula that separates Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.
The community was supposed to have been named "Bayhead," after the Bayhead Land Company that developed the area in the 1870s[1]. A railroad sign posted in the 1880s labeled the station as "Bay Head," and the name stuck when the borough was incorporated in 1886[2].

Bay Head is located at GR1.
(40.068690, -74.047064)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (15.71%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,238 people, 584 households, and 349 families residing in the borough. The population density was 810.2/km² (2,094.3/mi²). There were 1,053 housing units at an average density of 689.1/km² (1,781.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.98% White, 0.16% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.48% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.29% of the population.
There were 584 households out of which 16.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 5.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.1% were non-families. 35.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the borough the population was spread out with 15.4% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 21.7% from 25 to 44, 33.7% from 45 to 64, and 25.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $77,790, and the median income for a family was $93,055. Males had a median income of $64,063 versus $38,672 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $49,639. About 0.3% of families and 3.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.8% of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.

Bay Head is in the Fourth Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 10th Legislative District[3].
New Jersey's Fourth Congressional District, covering portions of Burlington County, Mercer County, Monmouth County and Ocean County, is represented by Christopher Smith (R). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Robert Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 10th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Andrew R. Ciesla (R, Brick) and in the Assembly by James W. Holzapfel (R, Brick) and David W. Wolfe (R, Brick). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Ocean County is governed by a five-member Board of Chosen Freeholders. Ocean County's Freeholders are: John C. Bartlett Jr., John P. Kelly, James F. Lacey, Gerry P. Little and Joseph H. Vicari.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade attend Bay Head Elementary School, which had an enrollment of 105 students in the 2004-05 school year.
Students in grades 9-12 attend Point Pleasant Beach High School in Point Pleasant Beach, as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Point Pleasant Beach School District.

- David Bryan, keyboardist for the rock band Bon Jovi.
- F. Slade Dale, noted mariner; best known for an unprecedented and not since duplicated trip from Bay Head to Southern Florida in a sneakbox via the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway, also known for his improvements on the sneakbox.
- Jack Ford, high profile lawyer, TV News anchor, talk show host, and current anchor alongside Ashleigh Banfield for Court TV, grew up in Bay Head, while his mother taught for several years at the Bay Head Elementary School.
- Peter Kellogg, net worth of 2.6 billion dollars and growing; tied for number 278 on Forbes Magazine's 2006 Billionaires List; director of the Wall Street investment firm Spear, Leeds & Kellogg, which was sold to Goldman Sachs in 2000 for $5.5 billion.
- Roger King, Producer, Owner of King World Productions, produces game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy; and co-produces alongside Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Phil McGraw.
- Dick LaBonte, artist and author, most famous work: Cocktails at the White House, featuring celebrities of the past and present enjoying a cocktail party with the Clintons, however the majority of his works feature scenes from around the Jersey Shore.
- Michael Richards, Actor best known for his role playing Cosmo Kramer on Seinfeld.
- Jay R. Saunders, award winning architect, projects including World's Fair, Bay Point Harbour, Pt. Pleasant, Lake Manassas, VA a project with Robert Trent Jones, employed thousands on work sites in the area as well as owner of Johnson Brothers Boat Works.
- Henry Thumann, founder of Thumann's Meats Inc., most famous for their Coney Island-style hot dogs.
