BayStar Capital

BayStar Capital is a hedge fund limited partnership located in San Francisco, California. Formed in February, 1999, BayStar was hard hit by the dot-com collapse of 2000 and reformed as North Bay Opportunities. They are currently known as BayStar Capital II, LP.

BayStar gained public attention in 2004 during the SCO Group legal battles, when it was revealed that Microsoft had introduced them to SCO. As a result BayStar invested $50 Million in SCO to fund their series of Linux-related lawsuits.

BayStar's current holdings include Commerce One, Midway Games, The SCO Group, NTN Communications, International Microcomputer Software and Digimarc Corporation. As of August 5, 2005, following the resignation of Steve Derby, BayStar Capital's managing parters are Lawrence Goldfarb, James Peet and Bob Rice.
