[edit] Redcoats ?

The text mentions that the red uniforms worn by the British troops in this battle were conspicuous.

The units involved were the 3rd Battalion, 60th Rifles; Royal Artillery; Naval Brigade. The 60th wore very dark green (almost black uniforms); the RA (and presumably the Naval infantry)wore very dark blue.

However, the British would have worn white pith helmets (topis) which would have stood out against the veld.

British marksmanship was no match for that of the Boers.
