There is a lot of Latin in this article, can we get some of it translated into English so it's readable by anybody? Awiseman 22:17, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

As far as I know, all the Latin sentences are translated. What are you refering to?--Panairjdde 16:30, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Semper gens normannica prona est ad avaritiam, militariter lucrum quaerens, dux Italiae, vexllum sancti Petri. I think the phrases are somewhat unneccessary, and should at least be translated if not removed. Awiseman 15:49, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

• "Normans were famous for being always greedy" <=> Semper gens normannica prona est ad avaritiam
• militariter lucrum quaerens <=> "looking for their payback with the military service"
• dux Italiae is a title, like shogun, zar, imperator, and so on
• vexllum sancti Petri is, as stated in the article, simply the name of the papal standard, just like Union Jack is the name of the UK flag.

Ok, vexillum and dux are fine (I added brief clarifications), but the other two phrases still seem extraneous, unless they are quotes from someone. Who said them? Otherwise it's just saying the same thing twice - saying they were mercenaries, then saying it in Latin, and saying they were greedy, then saying it in Latin. Awiseman 14:01, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Obviously it is a cititation, from the "Sources", Goffredo Malaterra (De rebus gestis Rogerii Calabriae et Siciliae comitis et Roberti Guiscardi ducis fratris eius, which is in Latin), and William of Apulia (Gesta Roberti Wiscardi, again in Latin). However, if you can't bear these citations, it's better to remove them. (Note it is quite funny that the tag says "The examples and perspective in this article or section may not represent a worldwide view", but the point is removing an original text which is not in English)--Panairjdde 22:55, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I added the {globalize} tag because it seemed closest to problem I have with the article, that it has a lot of Latin, which makes it hard for people not fluent in Latin (i.e. most people) to follow some sections. Awiseman 21:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
