[edit] Buttetsu?

Where does the name Buttetsu come from? Citing the source in the article is probably best, as it's totally unknown to me, and probably 99% of other non-japanese speakers.

Buttetsu is crap ( it is just a japanese title) like Bateau for Batou is wrong ... endless s... see forums, IRC, gits-fans archives, official sources http://www.productionig.com/contents/works_sp/39_/s03_/index.html Batou is Batou and even in French Bateau sounds crappy.

The Bateau Vs Batou case was disputed years ago and again.--Neuromancien 10:44, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

"Buttetsu is like Bateau for Batou ... endless s... " I'm sorry but I don't understand what this means. Bateau is fairly easily shown to be wrong; do you mean Buttetsu is too? If you mean there's endless sources, I have to disagree. Every official source and forum just says Batou. Googling "Buttetsu Batou" will get little beyond this page and duplicates of the text on other sites, certainly nothing authoritative.YourMessageHere 04:45, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
I agree ( and clarify my previous message I ask for Official moving of Buttestsu Bateau --> Batou ) see Requested moves
it was a "misunderstanding" i agree with Batou --Neuromancien 19:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Steven Seagal

More than one place has mentioned that Batou is based off Steven Seagal appearance-wise, since Seagal was a big influence on Shirow, but does anyone know where specifically this was said so I can site it in the article? --Katsuhagi 23:07, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

I believe it's probably OR, from some rumor. Other than the eyebrows, the derivation of a blonde, wide eyed, big nose, sharp cheek cyborg from a black haired, squinty eyed, overweight movie hack requires a bit of imaginations or drugs. falsedef 01:39, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Which world war?

Was it world war IV or world war III? I'm going to change it to three since there is little mention of a number in the series, only the "last world war." It makes more logical sense to me for it to be world war three.--Offkilter 02:15, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

  • I believe he was involved in WWIII. In the article linked to part of the GITS page it mentions that III was fought in South America, and characters usually refer to that war as "the last war" as opposed to VI. I'll check the episodes to see if it gets specific. --Katsuhagi 21:56, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
    • Yeah, it was III. The crazy guy who Batou hunts down in the first season was in that one. --Katsuhagi 13:57, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Guns

Batou uses the same Seburo SNAB as the rest of section 9 as his handgun in the manga. In the 1995 film he carries an IMI Jericho variant, in actual fact a fictional one termed the 942 and chambered for .50AE. This gun is also his primary handgun in Innocence but he also carries a Smith & Wesson Tactical Compact in .40S&W as a backup, which is seen in the convenience store scene. He carries an FN/Browning High Power chambered in .45ACP for most of the two TV series, with the G33AV referred to here only cropping up in one scene (training rookies at the shooting range, I forget which episode). The Tokyo Marui version predates the anime incarnation, but was created and offered to the makers of the series specifically as a publicity tie-in, and uses their existing G26 model as a chassis to add the extra garnish. I'll be updating this soon, but I wonder if a new section for weapons ought to be created. YourMessageHere 03:05, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bateau

Everyone in France knows that "Bato" is a mistaken romanization of "Bateau". "バトー"'s correct spelling is not "Batō", "Batou" nor "Batoh" but actually "Bateau" French for "boat" ("batou" doesn't exist). GITS international version -US vers.- by Kenji Kawai 1996 OST CD. I suggest to use the real name for Bateau or to mention it in a trivia note. Here's another evidence, screenshot from the Extra "character profiles" featured in Mamoru Oshii's Ghost In The Shell '95 (French original DVD edition, 2001 Pathé Europa). At last here's a last evidence, screenshot from the credits of GITS 1995 International Version (US) (sorry for the green bars its macrovision protection, if you don't believe just check the US DVD's credits). So as you can see, the official name in both Japan, France and the US is "BATEAU", so tell me why the hell did you used fansub amateurish material as source instead of licensed products? Shame On You 06:53, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

The problem with that is his official name is バトー, which transliterates as Batou, Batō or even Batoo, not to Bateau. Batou is the spelling in the Official Logs. All the English language DVDs that I own (pretty much all of them unless there are several versions) and on all the Japanese GitS merchandise that I own, and even the official website Production IG site. Bateau is the spelling detailed on the international version of the original GitS film, but that is the only place that I can find that. Ben W Bell talk 16:47, 6 November 2006 (UTC)
Everywhere I've seen it spells it 'Batou'. This includes the subtitles on the ACTUAL DVDS (not fansubs), and on the back of the boxes of the actual DVDs. I think that Batou is what should be used. It also spells it that way in the character profile on Manga's own website: [1]. Cloudy 01:40, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
It also spells it 'Batou' in the artbooks and the games and the DVDs(non-fansubs) and the logbooks AND the manga, as it seems to be the predominant & official spelling I think I'll change the article. Anyone who can give more official uses of Batou than there are of bateau feel free to revert it and flame me. ;)81.151.124.131 00:54, 14 November 2006 (UTC) Elmo

(this article is probably going to be merged at somepoint by the anti-fiction crusaders anyway :P ) 81.151.124.131 00:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC) Elmo

See http://www.productionig.com/contents/works_sp/39_/s03_/index.html even in French Bateau sounds crappy. The Bateau Vs Batou case was disputed years ago and again.--Neuromancien 10:45, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
we don't use "fansub amateurish material" you just argue from mistakely ( and isolated ) bug.I will not flame you but your name say it well enough see User_talk:Shame_On_You#Do_not_Vandalize_User_pages --Neuromancien 19:48, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
So, is this article's name going to be changed anytime soon then? Since "Batou" seems to be the preferred (not to mention official) Romanization, this needs to be done very soon.~e.o.t.d~ 19:33, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
batou is now official. I ask for Requested_moves#Uncontroversial_proposals for the talk page now --Neuromancien 07:36, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Solid State Society

Well obviously there isn't a section on SSS yet. I'm a bit busy ATM so can't write one at this very moment. I have one quick question for if I do. How much detail do you think the SSS section should go into? I only ask because I wouldn't really want to put it in spoiler tags if I could help it and yet if I go into as much detail as there is on his actions in other GitS installments, then it'd be slightly too spoiler heavy for a film that hasn't had an english language realease yet. :S Also do you think Solid State Society should be a subsection under 'films' or 'Stand Alone Complex'? because although it's a feature film it follows after the events of SAC not the events in the Oshii verse. 81.151.124.131 01:12, 14 November 2006 (UTC) Elmo

[edit] Copy and paste move

Hey guys, I recently had to undo a copy and paste move of this page, in case anyone's wondering why it was changed back. I believe it was an honest mistake; however, in the future, if you are still interested in moving the page, please try WP:RM. Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 06:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks it was done --Neuromancien 07:37, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] This page should be merged to Ghost in the Shell characters

I think this page should be merged to Ghost in the Shell characters. 21:09, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

i don't think so.Batou is a main caracter not only in GitS but also Innocence and SAC --Neuromancien 02:51, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
