The Battles of Arkan were British attacks on the coastal invasion route to Arkan, India during World War II. The British fought the Japanese at Arkan three times between 1942-1945. The first battle occurred in December of 1942. It was intended to give British forces confidence in fighting the Japanese.[citation needed] However, the attack was stopped by the Japanese. The second foray, in December of 1943, proceeded to Maungdaw before it was halted. In the third attack, the British finally captured Rangoon in 1945.
