Battle of the Dindar River

A battle near the Dindar River that occured in the year 1738, between the forces of the Ethiopian Emperor Iyasu II and the Sennar army under King Badi IV. The battle was disastrous for the Ethiopians and for Iyasu.

During the course of the battle, an icon of Christ and a piece of the True Cross carried into battle were captured, and had to be ransomed for 8,000 ounces of gold. [1]
