The Battle of San Francisco was fought on November 19, 1879, between Chile and the combined forces of Peru and Bolivia. The Chileans were ambushed by a numerically superior Peruvian-Bolivian force. The Bolivians eventually retreated, forcing their Peruvian allies to do the same.
