Battle of Rhandeia
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Battle of Rhandeia, in the aftermath of the Mithridatic Wars, the Romans under the legatus of Cappadocia, Lucius Caesennius Paetus, were defeated by a Parthia-Armenian army under King Tiridates of Armenia.
The Parthians had placed Tiridates, the brother of their king Vologases I on the Armenian throne, which had belonged to Tigranes, a Roman ally. A retaliatory campaign was organized by Caesennius Paetus, the governor of Cappadocia, in 62, with legions XII Fulminata and IIII Scythica, but the Tiridates forced them into surrender at Rhandeia (autumn 62).
