The battle marked the beginning of a phase in which the Iroquois at the behest of the British burned numerous villages on what was then the United States western frontier in western New York and Pennsylvania including the Cherry Valley massacre and the Wyoming Valley massacre. The rampage was not not be stopped until the Sullivan Expedition conducted a burnt earth strategy of burning all Iroquois villages.
