Battle of Boldon Hill

The Battle of Boldon Hill was a battle fought during the English Civil War in 1644, between a Royalist army based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and a Parliamentarian army based in Sunderland.

The battle was fought on Boldon Hill in Boldon, South Tyneside, which is roughly half-way between Newcastle and Sunderland.

Bolstered by Mercenaries from Scotland, the Parliamentarian army were victorious and went on to siege, and eventually capture the city of Newcastle.
