Battle Cry is a board wargame based on the American Civil War, designed by Richard Borg and published by Avalon Hill in 2000. While superficially similar to conventional board wargames, it draws from miniatures wargaming by using simplified units that can be played using figures, and simplified rules. Cardboard hexes are provided to be placed on the map to represent a wide variety of battles.
The basic mechanics involve playing a card which allows a player to order a certain number of units on a specified flank (left, right or center). Combat involves taking a number of dice (specified by the unit attacking and terrain). The special die have all of the unit symbols on them, and whenever the targets symbol is shown, 1 figure is removed from that unit.
The same game mechanic was later used in Borg's game Memoir '44, published by Days of Wonder.
The title, Battle Cry, was also used for a 1961 Civil War board game produced by the Milton Bradley Company as part of their popular American Heritage series, which was reprinted in the 1970s.
