Bathorë
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bathorë is an area just outside Tiranë, the capital city of Albania in Eastern Europe. Much of the area is essentially a shanty town, although local and international charitable organisations are involved in laying drainage and water supply pipes, and in recent years a hospital (built by Merlin) and school (part-funded by UNICEF) have been constructed.
The area, comprising approximately 2 square miles, was originally a state-run farm, and many of the estimated 20,000 residents live in converted cattle sheds with very little space, and often no windows. Sanitation is poor and there is no legal supply of electricity, although haphazard supplies do exist.
