[edit] Sports Teams
[edit] High School Sports
Batesville is home to many sports teams. In recent years, the Batesville High School basketball team has been better than many of the other teams in the Conference. In 1997 the basketball team went to the Regional Finals. That year was the last year before Indiana implemented "class basketball." It was the last year that a school as small as Batesville High School could compete against all high schools in Indiana, rather than only compete against other small schools. The dramatic potential of winning state drew national attention and Batesville was featured in the Washington Post and Sports Illustrated. The media flurry was a reminder of the Milan team of 1954, which the movie Hoosiers is based on. Batesville lost the Regional game in New Castle.
However, whether the team does well or not, the supporters of the team are always there. The school boast the Sportsmanship Award for their conference. The Student Section at boy's games is packed full of spirited energetic teens that never seem to run out of chants and cheers for their team.
The town is now starting to get into football fever. Both the Varsity and the JV teams have had great seasons for the past few years. The Varsity team has won Sectionals for the past 5 years, and the JV took an undefeated season in 2005. The award winning Batesville Bulldog Brigrade marching band performs during half-time of all home Varsity games.
The Tennis team also has had success. They won their 16th Sectional title in a row.
The Batesville Lady Bulldog volleyball team has had successful seasons in the past two years.
