[edit] Bruce Wars in Ireland

I've being doing some long-overdue edits to Edward Bruce, particularly under the headings "The Invasion of Ireland" and "Arrival and the Campaign of 1315". I began it because the original article was hopelessly wrong in many places, but am now wondering if what I am writing would be better suited as an article in its own right on the Irish Bruce wars? [edit] What?

What are you talking about? What e-mail are you talking about? And whether or not you appreciate my edits is immaterial..... Thank you for your time and have a great afternoon...

[edit] Re: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Karmacoda

You really shouldn't close an AFD you are apart of. Please leave that to somebody else. -Rob 21:00, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I won't revert you, as the ultimate outcome was keep anyway. And you're right, it should not have been nominated. -Rob 21:34, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Trying to get this off of Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Log/2006_April_14#Karmacoda and can't figure out how. Originally the user wanted to argue as copyright violation, but that didn't fly--the original author has approved the text. Then he claimed non-notable. It certainly does meet notability standards.

I see how active you are and your help would be appreciated getting this rushed so I can notify the complaintant via email.

Thank you. astiqueparervoir 20:41, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello! I don't quite understand what you mean. The AfD process has been undertaken and the result was keep. This result is logged on the AfD page for future reference. When I close debates in this manner, I remove the link to the debate from the main article page, with a note in the edit history regarding the successful keep vote. I then add a link to the debate to the article's Talk page, for reference. I have done this for you. Once articles appear on an AfD page the link stays on. The debates can be closed early if there has been a mistake in the nomination. The closing admin makes a note of this in their stated reasons for closure. I hope that this has been of some help. Please let me know if you need further clarification. Regards,  (aeropagitica)  (talk)  21:42, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IRmep

When IRmep spoke on capital hill Adam Shapiro was on their panel, that would be affialiation. [1] [2].- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:26, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

If he was speaking on their behalf on capital Hill then how is it not affiliation?- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:29, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Anyways you have violated the 3RR probably without knowing, maybe you should self-Revert.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:32, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

If Shapiro and IRmep had never come into contact before they would still be affiliated by virtue of the fact that Shapiro spoke on their behalf in front of congress. Here is a definition of "Affiliation- To become closely connected or associated.". Imagine if it wasn't Shapiro talking for IRmep but a Lawyer doing it for free, would you deny they were affiliated then?- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:38, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Anyways check the edit history of the article, you made a clear violation of 3RR please either revert yourself or change what you wrote to something more compromising.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:40, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Your reverted me two times, you reverted two other times as well though.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:41, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Fine I will change it to "Adam Shapiro (who started the pro-palestinian ISM) was on the panel of IRmep when the organization spoke on Capital Hill and shares his same views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." will you be fine with that?- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:44, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

The problem is that the only place we can get info about them is from their own website or from equally bias and partisan blogs from the opposite side like Little green footballs.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:53, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cornuke

None of his lesser degrees were from accredited institutions either. How do you think we should state this?JoshuaZ 15:57, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bias?

I am rather insulted by your accusation on the IRmep talk page. I feel it is unjustified and consider myself one of the more polite and level-headed editors that you will find on this subject. Although admitedly the IRmep article hasn't brought out my best qualities. The fact that I could find editors of radically different POVs to support me and give evidence of compromise helps to convince me that I am justified in this belief.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 00:45, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

I never said that you have a POV on the IPC. I don't even really think that. Honestly the only thing that I thought was that you were being too accomdating of whoever launched the complaint. For example, any court in America would agree that it would be okay to say that Shapiro was affiliated with IRmep when he agreed to be on their Capital Hill Forum panel.- Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg | Talk 01:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SYITS

I just wanted to drop a quick note to say that I appreciate your input on the Cornuke article, it's been dramatically improved since you've gotten involved. I also appreciate your verification of my identify, at least that I'm not this gastrich guy ;) I'll add to my user page as I get some time. Thanks! --SYITS 15:38, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fort Lauderdale, Florida

I'll keep my eye on that. I was hoping I had found a nice compromise with that user by moving the Calvalry reference from the intro into a seperate religion section. I imagine it is arguable that the church is sufficiently notable for inclusion (especially in the context of a broader religion section) and, frankly, I dont have the energy right now to get into a back and forth about notability with the editor who added the church. But I will definitely watch out for any more illogical edits. Thanks for all your good contributions. Captaintruth 01:07, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Care to explain this?

Re: "OTRS Ticket number 2006042810016001." I have no idea what it means. - WarriorScribe 01:51, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Ref "Go to OTRS and stop reverting carefully considered changes. I am reverting it and will escalate this to an RFC if you continue."
Two things. First: What did I revert? I don't recall anything. Back off. I haven't reverted any "carefully considered changes." Feel free to engage in threats while trying to white-wash. I can certainly put you in front of an RfC, as well. Fair enough? Second: I can't see where this ticket number can be applied so that I can see if it addresses what I asked. You'll have to do better. All I'm asking for is a reasonable citation or reference that shows that these things are "improper" or not allowed. Unless you're an admin, and given your rather imperious attitude, so far, I'm not really interested in your "say-so." - WarriorScribe 14:25, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Justforkix (Asterix)

Should he be included as a Recurring character? While a major character in one story & nephew of a major character, he has never actually "recurred" in the series ...--Invisifan 08:46, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm including him because he's a major character in one story as a well as a major character in the highest budget feature film as well. Even though it's the same story, it's big enough to make him notable.
Granted, he hasn't been named as "Justforkix" yet—the English version has yet to offer a release date. Myself? I'm waiting for the French language version to make its way to the United States (via Quebec). astiqueparervoir 12:35, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not denying he's popular (he's also the subject of video & adventure games and has things named after him at the Asterix theme park) - just that he's recurring. Oh well, I won't object (though I'll perhaps ad some other unremarkable characters who DO recur ^_^) ...--Invisifan 11:20, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Misha Sedgwick

Frankly, the article as it was was kinder to Misha than it could have been. It is a matter of record that she appeared in the off broadway play Andy & Edie in 2004, and that various publications referred to her as the niece of Edie Sedgwick (including the New York Times) as late as December, 2005. (An Andy Warhol-related web site claims Misha is sorry about claiming to be related and that it was Braunstein;s idea, but that is not a RS.) Of the sentence you removed

She made her off-Broadway debut in 2004 as Edie Sedgwick (no relation), in the play Andy & Edie, about the relationship between Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol.

the only thing I can not prove with an RS is that it was her debut. I think the inclusion of the statement "(no relation)" is redundant, given the details given below in the article; that too keeps getting inserted by an anon and although I think it is not encylopedic in tone I haven't fought to keep it out. I did not include the real gossipy stuff, like the fact that the play's writer/director Peter Braunstein became infamous for a notorious sex crime and that before the play premiered Braunstein told Page 6 that he and Misha were going to be married (which I wouldn't include even if there was no complaint). I don't understand why that sentence was targeted. Most actresses would want their professional debut mentioned in their bio and I don't see how the sentence you changed could be construed as gossip (except for the needless "no relation"). Maybe its simply that becuase the play was a flop, someone wants to rewrite history and pretend it didn't happen, or maybe they want to avoid the link to the article about the play since that links to Braunstein. You could make an argument that her theater and movie roles have been so minor that the the article should be sent to AfD for lack of notability, but I don't see why Wikipedia should be a party to sanitizing the poor decisions she made while trying to get her career started. Thatcher131 06:03, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I'd like you to take a look at my changes to the article. As far as I can tell everything conforms to WP:V and WP:RS and is not the least bit gossipy. How do you believe wikipedia should respond if the e-mailer complains again? (I am not personally involved either; somehow this got on my radar and I seem to be the only one watching it too.) [edit] Bruce Lee

Hi there, I re-added the Bruce Lee link and then saw you removed it. It only requires Real Media to player to run which is a free download and already exists on 90% of the PCs out there. I think it's a usefull link.

Ok - I see the problem now my friend after you pointed it out, can you take a look at that link now. Might need to refresh your browser cache to remove the old html.

[edit] RfA

Hallo Bastique- No hard feelings, but I think you have issues controlling your temper, and that kind of behaviour is not compatible with admin responsibilities in my view. Had it not been for the recent example I linked to, I would have remained neutral, but that comment really was unacceptable. I'm quite surprised you weren't blocked. It's acceptable (although still objectionable) for an editor to make a silly comment in the heat of the moment and then apologise- but its not OK for an admin. From your comments it seems like this is a regular occurrence with you. Anyway, I hope you don't take this the wrong way; since it looks likely that your RfA will pass, it's more of a friendly piece of advice to keep you off the admin noticeboards than anything else! To your credit, you (more-or-less) frankly stated that you had a short-temper on your RfA questions, allowing other editors to decide for themselves. It seems that most of them do not see it as such an important issue. Anyway, all the best, and thank you for taking the time to reply. Badgerpatrol 12:52, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, with respect, you obviously haven't learnt from your mistakes, unless this epiphany has occurred in the last few weeks. As I describe above, had all the comments been made early in your wiki career, then I would have been inclined to remain neutral. It does seem from this comment [3] that there has been a recent change in your reckoning as to your own self-control- can you tell me what happened? Anyway, to reiterate, I think you are a terrific editor and you do a lot of valuable work- but maintaining civility and keeping a cool head are THE most important traits for an administrator. If, as you say, you keep out of issues like blocking, page protection, or any other task where objectivity is required, then it won't be a problem for you however, and good luck with your admin career, since it seems like you will definitely be appointed; and as we all know, the democratically expressed will of the people can never be wrong, eh? ;-) All the best, Badgerpatrol 13:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Bastique. Your signature is pretty big (476 characters). Would you be able to cut it down a little, to say, under 200 characters? Large signatures like that really clutter up the wikitext. Thanks. ~MDD4696 21:26, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm not trying to press a point, please don't take it personally. As you know, the RfA process is a frank one where everyone has their say, good or bad. I must confess, I was disappointed by your reaction to Buchanan-Hermit's vote (especially coming so soon), but it's no biggie. Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

[edit] Copyright abuses

Hello, this message is because of your comments opossing User:Ta bu shi da yu admin here. Because of the abuse of authority of User:Ta bu shi da yu, Tens of thousands of images have been deleted by a small handful of wikipedians, citing "fair use".

Would you be interested in joining a group on wikipedia which counters the heavy handed tactics of the copyright police. We can't fight them on my own. User talk:Ed g2s has began deleting fair use image on every person's user page and on several other pages, inspired by WP:FUC which was written by another paternal copyright policeman with absolutly no legal training and little understanding of copyright law. User:Ta bu shi da yu created the WP:FUC page and was responsible for deleting hundreds of Time magazine covers and refused to stop even after Time magazine sent an e-mail allowing wikipedia to use the images.

We stared this page, with this purpose: User:Travb/Misguided and heavy handed tactics of some admins regarding copyright

Please tell others about this project. The paternal copyright police are well organized and are intoxicated with their own trival power here on wikipedia. Like most authoritarian personalities, these misguided copyright fanatics have finally have overstepped the bounds of good sense and restraint, when they began deleting tens of thousands images from wikiusers' pages. Only a large number of wikipedians will stop this abuse. Travb 13:45, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
