Bastardo (PG)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bastardo, a small town in the Italian province of Perugia in central Umbria in the valley of the Torrente Puglia, 42°56N 12°36E; altitude 290 m (951 ft) above sea-level. It is a frazione of Giano dell'Umbria, which is 7 km (about 4 mi) S by road. Although the Italian census agency (ISTAT) does not break down population figures for towns below the comune level, it can be stated that Bastardo has about 800 inhabitants. It is an agricultural products processing center, and despite its small size, has several hotels and restaurants, due to its location in one of the more scenic areas of Umbria.
The town grew around an inn and stabling station in the 17th or 18th centuries, and was once known as Osteria del Bastardo, or "Bastard's Inn."
