Bassmasters

"Bassmasters" is a season three episode of The Ren and Stimpy Show. It was written by Bob Camp and Jim Gomez, storyboarded by Peter Avanzino, background color design done by Scott Wills, and directed by Bob Camp.

[edit] Plot

This episode begins very similarly to "Untamed World" but has more dialogue between characters than narration. Ralph, the fly from Jiminy Lummox, also makes a small cameo in this episode. Ren believes that he is a master of fishing, so he and Stimpy go out on a fishing trip to catch the lunker, the Foul-Mouth Bass. But Wilbur Cobb, an escapee from Ping Ping Federal Penitentiary, makes it aboard the boat, and Ren forces himself not to lose his temper (although he displays hysterical rage at both Stimpy and Cobb).

Stimpy and Wilbur manage to catch more fish than Ren, and Ren goes all but completely insane. He snatches up into the boat about six of the small fish (who celebrate like it's a cruise ship), and suddenly Albert, the Foul-Mouth Bass, appears on the boat. He tells Ren off, informing him that, if he wants to catch a fish, he has to think like a fish. Ren strips and swims around in the lake until the bass catches him and hangs him on a plaque. Many years later, Ren (who was dubbed the Dumb Bass) is still on the plaque on Albert's wall, as an elderly Albert is concluding the story of how he caught the "pesky critter" (Ren) to a young fish (presumably his grandson), and all Ren can do is blink.

[edit] Trivia

  • The salesfish is very similar to "hey it's that guy," having the same voice and wearing the same hat and bowtie.
  • This marks the first appearance of Wilbur Cobb in an episode he has no reason to be in.
