Base camp

- This article is about climbing. For the project manager, see Basecamp (software).
In climbing, a base camp may be set up to provide the starting point for a multiple day or week assault on climbing a mountain. Base camp is used to store supplies that are carried to camps higher up on the mountain. On major mountaineering expeditions spanning several weeks or more, an advanced base camp (ABC) may be set up higher on the mountain. Supplies from the main base camp are carried to ABC from which camps higher up are stocked.
