[edit] cleanup needed
- This article needs a leading paragraph.
- In The Maxwell Period this paragraph does not make sense: On 27 March 1646, as James Maxwell of Dirleton, failing male heirs of his own body, he made a tailzie of certain lands on the four eldest sons of his eldest daughter Elizabeth by her husband William, Duke of Hamilton, whom failing, on James Maxwell alias Cecil, second son of Viscount Cranbourne, husband of Diana, the granter’s second daughter, he taking the surname and arms of Maxwell.

- I have removed the copy-edit tag and replaced it with a clean up tag, because in terms of spelling etc, the article is fine. I have also removed all the red links, because wikipedia guidelines say that if you are creating red-links because you intend to go and create pages for them, it is better to create the pages first and then incorporate the link into the article, unless that link is of great importance.
