The Running Man Barnstar may be awarded for distinguished efforts in sports-related articles. This barnstar is intended for those who give 110% in order to advance Wikipedia's coverage of the world of sports.

This award was introduced on February 15, 2005, and was designed by Deathphoenix and brian0918.

[edit] History

The original idea for an award dedicated to sports was introduced by Redux on February 15, 2005. The purpose was to create a barnstar that would reward efforts in one of the most popular themes around: sports.

After some discussion as to what the appropriate image for this award would be, Deathphoenix came up with an original design that was immediately accepted by those involved in the creation of the award. The struggle then turned to the colors and general aspect of that image. After a while, Brian0918 came up with a total of seven suggestions for colors and formats, but the community took his seventh suggestion as the best one, with the image of the award-naming "running man" "carved" into an olympic-gold-like barnstar.

The "running man" is an original creation of Deathphoenix, and soon after being introduced, it became a symbol for this award, which led to it also becoming the name of the award itself.
