[edit] History

Barugo was founded by Datu Sikatuna, Datu Kasadok and Datu Pangilawon. The town got its name from the tree called "balugo" that grow in abundance at that time in the area. They first settled at the mouth of Himanglos River. Due to constant Moro raids, they were forced to move inland.

In the 1780s or earlier, the town was marauded and turned into ashes by the Moro raiders. The place is now called "Nasunogan," meaning a place where something was burned. Because of this, the town were forced once again to move to its present location.
