From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bartestree is a village in Herefordshire, England, 7 km (4 miles) east of Hereford on the A438 road. The name is thought to be derived from the Old English Beorhtwald's tree.
In 1984, St. Michael's Hospice, the only purpose built hospice in Herefordshire was constructed on land owned by Bartestree Convent.
The Convent of Our Lady of Charity & Refuge was founded 1863 and occupied a large, red brick building by Edward Pugin. The convent closed in 1992 and, after standing derelict for some years, the building was converted into flats.
