Bartel John Jonkman (April 28, 1884 – June 13, 1955), graduated from the University of Michigan Law School, and served as Congressman in the Third District of Michigan from 1940 to 1949. He was a lawyer and prosecutor before entering Congress. A Republican, he was defeated for re-election by Gerald Ford, who defeated him in the Republican primary in 1948. Jonkman had become unpopular largely due to his isolationist position on foreign policy. He was born and died in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
