Actor Barry Tubb was born in Snyder, Texas on February 13, 1963. He won the state bull-riding championship at age 15 (junior division). And after graduating from Snyder High School in 1981 he began his stage training in San Francisco. Barry then moved to Hollywood in the mid 80s to try his hand at screen and television acting.

Barry initially drew attention on TV series work and in topical mini-movies dealing with sensitive issues. Following a regular role on the short-lived baseball ensemble series Bay City Blues and a recurring one as a rookie cop on Hill Street Blues he showed promise as both a shy homosexual who comes out to his parents and faces the repercussions therein in Consenting Adult. He also took a role as a preppy corporate upstart involved in murder in Billionaire Boys Club. However, Barry's television career peaked playing Jasper Fant in the epic westerns Lonesome Dove and its sequel Return to Lonesome Dove in 1993 which were partly set in his native Texas.

After cementing his reputation on TV, Barry gravitated towards film with supporting roles in Mask, The Legend of Billie Jean, and as Wolfman in Top Gun, but stardom proved elusive. In 1988, he co-starred with Mary Tyler Moore and Lynn Redgrave appearing fully nude in the Broadway production of Sweet Sue, which had a respectable run of 164 performances. The following year he appeared naked again, this time on film, in the sexy drama Warm Summer Rain opposite Kelly Lynch.

Barry eventually grew disenchanted with Hollywood and turned to independent filming and other interests. In 1991, he moved to France and rode in a Wild West show. And spreading his wings further, to include off-camera activity, Barry starred, directed, produced, and co-wrote the Cowboys and Indians low-budget thriller Blood Trail which lead to no major offers for distribution.

More recently, Barry has returned to his youthful roots in directing the family film Grand Champion about the exploits a young boy who raises a prize-winning steer and struggles to save it from the slaughterhouse. He shot the film in his own hometown of Snyder.
