Barry Gjerde was born Oddbjørn Egil Gjerde on 13 August 1951 in Vestnes, Norway. He has worked many years in Japan as a translator, mostly narrating various corporate projects and providing voice acting for video games. He is known best to video game fans as providing the infamous voice and live-action acting for the character Barry Burton in Capcom's Resident Evil.
