Barry Roy Aspinell has been a councillor in Brentwood since 1980. Until 2005 he was also a County Councillor for Brentwood.

In August 2005 he gained national attention in defying an injunction taken out by Essex County Council to stop him speaking about a case whereby children were being put up for adoption against the wishes of their parents.
