Barron River (Queensland)

The Barron River is located on the Atherton Tableland inland from Cairns in Northern Queensland, Australia. It is dammed to form Lake Tinaroo, the main water supply of the region. The Barron Falls, a waterfall 230 metres high, that has had much of its water diverted to generate electricity at the Barron Gorge Hydroelectric Power Station, is located on the river near Cairns. The Aboriginal name for the Barron was Bibhoora.
