[edit] High School Atheltics
Barnstable High School teams are known as the Red Raiders, a name they share with, most notably, Texas Tech University. Red Raider teams have fared very well in recent years, with the most successful team being the girls' tennis program. In the 2006 spring tennis season, the entire team went undefeated in the regular season and team captain Lauren Donnelly (her 2nd consecutive championship) and her partner Kourtney Kelly won the South Sectional doubles championship, also earning recognition as Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team winners. Under Donnelly's leadership, the Red Raiders are currently in the hunt for the team South Sectional championship. Another notable Athletics division of the Barnstable High School Red Raiders, is the volleyball team. This team has taken on and beat almost every other team they have played within the last four years. This is a very strong dedicated team, which continues to pump out victories against its rivals. In 2006, the Red Raiders Volleyball team invited the reigning Hollywood volleyball team to come to Massachusetts and play. This well known team showed up, and got dominated. Notable town rivals of the Red Raiders are Sandwich and Falmouth.
New on the scene this year, Barnstable has a unidentified, and non school supported mascot, the running bunny. The bunny has shown up at numerous soccer and footbal games to sprint across the field, get a few high fives, and then jump a fence. Free the Bunny!
