Barneveld (pronunciation (help·info)) is a town and a municipality in the province of Gelderland in the eastern Netherlands. The population of the municipality was 50,028 in 2005, the town having a population of 28,147[1].
Barneveld has become famous in the Netherlands for poultry farming and egg production and has a breed of chicken, the Barnevelder, named after it.
A famous story in Barneveld's history is the story of Jan van Schaffelaar, a man who jumped off the church tower in 1482 in order to save the lives of his men and his wife.
