Barkur is a village in Udupi district of the Karnataka state in South India.

Barkur was the ancient capital of the Tulu kingdom. The rulers who ruled present day districts of coastal Karnataka were known as Tulu rulers or kings. They spoke local Tulu language.
Even today at Barkur one can find ruins of forts used by ancient kings. Some inscriptions in Tulu languages are found in and around Barkur.The ruins and inscriptions are need to be preserved. These are part of glorious history of Tulunadu.

There is a railway station in Barkur on Konkan railway Mumbai-Mangalore route. Barkur can be reached by bus from Udupi town.
