Barfly (club)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Barfly is a chain of nightclubs in the UK. It has venues in Birmingham, Glasgow, Cardiff, Liverpool, London and York. They regularly feature live music. Their club nights tend to feature rock, alternative and independent music. Barfly began as one club in Camden Town, London in 1996. A second venue was opened in Cardiff in 2001 and others followed.

The Birmingham venue is situated in Digbeth, with the entrance just off Digbeth High Street. Although the venue is a part of the larger "Sanctuary" it still holds regular independent nights. The most popular nights include "Jump Around - 90s Clubnight" (Tuesday Nights: all the biggest hits from the 90's); "Catfight" (Friday nights: electro, rock, emo) and "We Get Kicks" (Saturday nights: indie/alternative). Alternate Saturdays also see the club open as a part of "Panic", a rock night running in both the Sanctuary and Barfly venues.

The Cardiff venue is in the heart of the city besides Cardiff Castle. It features many bands local to south Wales with club nights twice a week.

The Liverpool Barfly on Seel Street is housed in a two hundred years old building reputed to be haunted. [citation needed] It has three band rooms and hosts club nights every night of the week such as Chibuku Shake Shake on Saturdays and Mixed bag on Thursday. The bar often attracts local rock personalities from Liverpool bands the Zutons and the Coral.

The original London Barfly in Camden has large influence in the rising London music scene and is a popular watering hole for the music industry elite, music lovers, 'scene' kids and younger crowd all year round. [citation needed] It is no longer in its original premises: it moved in 2000.
