Bareback Mountain is a gay porn movie by Lycan Films, named after the mainstream movie Brokeback Mountain. The name is easily suggested by a joke that takes into consideration the homosexual plotline of Brokeback Mountain and the similarity between the name of the fictional mountain and the slang term barebacking.

Prior to being used for this porn movie, the title Bareback Mountain was initially used by some pundits when referring to the mainstream film and presumably originated in the context of comments on blogs and discussion boards.

The film bears virtually no resemblance to its source material, aside from the theme of gay cowboys. "Bareback" is set almost entirely in a mansion in the rural Southern U.S. in 2005 (as opposed to Brokeback's setting of the 1960s-1980s); there are gay male characters central to the plot as opposed to just two; red bandanas become a prominent accessory to several sex scenes, a motif not employed in "Brokeback"; and an integral scene of the film revolves around an erotic game of pool. The "cowboys" are distinguished by the continual presence of cowboy hats and red bandanas throughout the course of the film, with no other indication being given that they are in fact cowboys.

The title of the film is misleading and somewhat ironic: "Bareback" is a term in gay pornography used to designate the absence of condoms during anal intercourse; however, only one sex scene in the film employs barebacking, whereas every other sexual encounter has the actors wearing condoms.

[edit] Other Films

Several months after the release of Lycan Films' Bareback Mountain, Puppy Productions released their own Bareback Mountain. The plots resemble each other however, Puppy Production's version is an actual bareback film, meaning no condoms are used during the sex scenes.

Blue Pictures also created a gay porn film named Bareback Mountain, but it doesn't appear to have a cowboy theme or any plot.
