Banu Utub

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Banu Utub (or Bani Utbah, or Utoob) (Arabic: بنو العتوب‎) was one of the tribes of Arabia during Muhammad's era. They originated from the region of Najd in central Arabia. The tribe is thought to have been formed when a group of different tribal groups migrated from Najd to Kuwait on the Persian Gulf coast sometime in the late seventeenth century.

The current ruling families of Bahrain (the Al Khalifa), Kuwait (the Al-Sabah) and Saudi Arabia (the Saud) are clans belonging to the Bani Utub. The Al Fazil and Al Jalahma clans are also members of the tribe, and are largely based in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
