Banu Makhzum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Banū Makhzūm (Arabic: بنو مخزوم) is one of the tribes of Arabia descending from the tribe of Quraish, which branched out into various tribes, the most famous being Jumah, Sahm, ‘Adi, Makhzum, Tayim, Zahra.
Banū is the plural construct of the Arabic word ibn (or bin). While the word ibn can mean "son" or "descendant," the word has separate plural forms for each meaning: abnā' almost always means "sons"; banūn almost always means "descendants." Banū Makhzūm thus means "the descendants of Makhzūm".
